DUTY IS LIKE A GOLDEN THREAD Our everyday duties are like a golden string left to us by the Lord. If we fulfil them faithfully and lovingly, we can be sure of doing God’s Will, and we can move forward steadily towards the light of Heaven. “Whatever your work is, put your heart into it as if it were for the Lord and not for men, knowing that the Lord will repay you by making you his heirs.” Col 3:23-24.OIL-M:1445
IN A CHASM OF LONELINESS We can find Christ in the Holy Eucharist, no matter how obscure our lives, how isolated our community. We trust that if we stand firm, we shall one day reign with Him. “You should be living holy and saintly lives while you wait and long for the Day of God to come … the new heavens and new earth, the place where righteousness will be at home.” 2 Pet 3:11-13.OIL-M:1501
CHRIST, THE BRIDGE TO HEAVEN We can be certain that Christ is keeping His promise of remaining amongst us. He is present in the Church through the Scriptures, through his ordained ministers, through the community of the faithful, and supremely through the Sacrament of His Body and Blood. “And know that I am with you always; yes, to the end of time.” Mt 28:20.OIL-M:81
CHRIST, AMONGST HIS PEOPLE Christ alone has bridged the gulf between earth and Heaven. By His Passion, Death, Resurrection and Ascension, He has made a sure path to the Godhead for all those who believe in Him. “I am the Way, the Truth and the Life. No one can come to the Father except through me. If you know me, you know my Father too.” Jn 14:6-7.OIL-M:1327
THE SOULS OF THE JUST If we remain faithful, and die ‘in Christ,’ we shall certainly reach Heaven, whether straight after death, or after a necessary purification. “If the Spirit of him who raised Jesus from the dead is living in you, then he … will give life to your own mortal bodies.” Rm 8:11.OIL-M:691.
THE GLORY AND THE GATHERING Those who love Christ are united with Him and with each other - whether they live on earth, in Purgatory, or in Heaven. Whenever we kneel in prayer we join the worship of this ‘Communion of Saints.’ We long to share in the eternal fulfilment of Heaven, united with one another in love with the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. “ His servants will worship him, they will see him face to face … they will not need lamplight or sunlight, because the Lord God will be shining on them.” Rev 22:3-5.OIL-M:42A
